Dr. Helbig is a graduate of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Following his residency in Orthopaedic surgery, he was a fellow in spine surgery at the State University of New York - Health Science Center at Syracuse, NY. His training included experience in the treatment of all types of disorders of the spine including trauma, congenital abnormalities and degenerative problems of the cervical, thoracic and lumbo-sacral spine. Dr. Helbig's chief professional interest is in the complicated area of spinal disorders having done hundreds of spinal procedures during his career. He also has extensive experience in adult reconstructive surgery including hip, knee and ankle replacement surgery, as well as, arthroscopic and laser procedures. Dr. Helbig is actively involved as the Resident Education Director at the New Jersey Medical School, is Chief Spine Consultant at the V.A. Medical Center in East Orange, N.J and is a Clinical Instructor on the faculty of the University of Medicine and Dentistry - New Jersey Medical School.
